Hillsboro Garden Club gets ready for fall

Hillsboro Garden Club

The October 2026 meeting of the Hillsboro Garden Club was called to order by President Lynn Luman.

The roll call question was "how are you preparing your soil for next year?" Sixteen members and five guests were present and answered.

The tip of the month was "the best garden dreams start while the winter garden slumbers."

Ruth Anna Duff gave her treasurer's report which was accepted.

Connie Hilliard presented the horticultural exhibit – a begonia plant and a geranium plant which she passed around with clippers for members to take samples home. The plants will root in either soil or water.

In Old Business, the garden club's Christmas tree was decorated earlier in the day at the Highland House Museum, thanks to Judith Stivender, Lori Gunderman, Mercedes Heller and Jennifer West. The theme this year is famous Ohioans. The club picked Johnny Appleseed.

In New Business, Lynn passed out information on the 2027 Ohio Association of Garden Clubs Horticulture convention flower show. The show will be in Hamilton, Ohio on July 12-14.

Lynn also distributed information on the Faye Collins designer of the year contest. Deadline will be Dec. 15.

The members also discussed the condition of the tables in Floral Hall. As the tables are used during the county fair flower shows, their appearance is important.  Lynn will get prices of replacement tables but for the moment, the subject is "tabled"!

The Spring 2027 Region 16 meeting will be held in Wilmington on April 14. This meeting will be a half day program with a speaker from Glen Helen.

Cindy Roche' then gave a beautiful program the colors of Fall.  She brought an assortment of dried materials. It was lovely.

Hostesses Lori Gunderman and Susanna Hottle-Faraday treated the members to a tasty snack. The meeting was then adjourned.

The next meeting will be Nov. 17, a week earlier, at the Highland County Historical Museum.
