Shapley and Ziegler, longtime IRS employees, went public with accusations that President Biden's Department of Justice interfered in their investigation into Hunter Biden's tax evasion case, for which Hunter eventually pleaded guilty. Hunter, the president's son, was accused of failing to file and pay $1.4 million in taxes, filing false information, and claiming false and fraudulent business deductions.

According to provisional statistics, two people were killed in two fatal crashes on Ohio roadways this Christmas holiday. 

On Dec. 31, the Hillsboro Police Department was made aware of a pursuit that originated in Highland Heights, Ky. The pursuit entered Highland County and was approaching the city limits. An officer from the Hillsboro Police Department deployed stop sticks and brought the vehicle came to a stop in the 300 block of East South Street. The suspect fled on foot in a wooded area. 

Though many U.S. House Republicans quickly accepted President-elect Donald Trump’s endorsement of Speaker Mike Johnson for reelection, a few are still smarting from the recent continuing resolution battle and are threatening to withhold support.

The underlying commonality is they illegally entered the U.S. under the Biden administration and are identified as top targets for removal by the Trump administration.

A federal court has ruled that the Biden administration must comply with an order issued in May related to border wall funding. Multiple news outlets reported the order halted the administration from selling border wall materials.

Highland County Juvenile and Probate Court Judge Kevin Greer administered the oath of office to Highland County Clerk of Courts Dwight “Ike” Hodson Monday, Dec. 30.
