State Representative Cliff Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) this week voted  in support of House Bill 58, which passed from the Ohio House of Representatives by a vote of 89-7. The legislation incorporates into Ohio law the “Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010,” which authorized a two-year extension of tax cuts currently in place and was signed into federal law on December 17, 2010.

LEBANON - Cincinnati news stations are reporting that a jury has found Ryan Widmer guilty of murdering his wife, Sarah.
  This was Widmer's third murder trial. In the first trial, a conviction was overturned due to juror misconduct, and a second trial ended in a hung jury.

Wyatt McCubbin, a Southeastern High School sophomore and up-and-coming country music performer, will bring his music to Hillsboro's Colony Theater on Friday, Feb. 25. Eric LaMont Gregory has announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate. Gregory, 61, ran briefly as an independent candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2009, before withdrawing from a race eventually won by Rob Portman.

One hundred sixty-four black bear sightings were reported in Ohio last year, according to the Ohio Division of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife.

Future board members of the newly formed Hillsboro Uptown Renaissance Project met recently to discuss the organization and future plans of the non-profit group created to help promote economic and cultural growth in Uptown Hillsboro.

Highland County Community Action Organization Executive Director Julia Wise warned county commissioners of significant cuts to the organization if projected federal funding reductions come to fruition. Wise and Mark Current met with commissioners Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Jeremy Shaffer at the Feb. 9 board meeting.

The city of Hillsboro will have a carryover of $70,000 into 2012, according to projections from the Hillsboro Auditor and Safety and Service Director.
 The finance committee of the Hillsboro City Council met Thursday to discuss the budget and a recommendation to a full council, which meets Feb. 14.
 Most departments saw decreases in their budget, while the Hillsboro Life Squad saw an increase of nearly $40,000.

A Hillsboro man charged with having a meth lab in his house with four children was found guilty on four counts of child endangering Thursday in Highland County Common Pleas Court. However, the jury found him not guilty on one first-degree felony charge of illegal manufacture of drugs.
 David Bailey was indicted on the charges in November, following a Sept. 24 fire in his home in the 100 block of Pleasant Street in Hillsboro.
