A suspect is in custody following an hours-long standoff in the Allensburg area.
As of 3:19 p.m., Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera said there was a “barricade situation” in the area. According to sources, there was reportedly a standoff taking place between law enforcement and an armed suspect.
The sheriff confirmed shortly before 10 p.m. that the suspect is in custody. According to Barrera, no deputies were injured. The suspect has "a wound that is getting treatment," Barrera told The Highland County Press. No other details have been released.
Lynchburg-Clay Local Schools were locked down Wednesday afternoon as a precautionary measure, under the advice of law enforcement. They delayed release of students for the day, according to superintendent Jack Fisher.
Around 3:30 p.m., the district announced that they would begin releasing students "with strict instructions to avoid the Allensburg area," and that they were attempting to combine bus routes.
