Students, fiscal years, and employment at GEVSD meeting

Monday’s Greenfield school board meeting was a blend of matters including student recognition, end-of-year financial matters and employment recommendations in preparation for the coming school year.

Student athletes from summer sports were recognized by the board of education. Of the 13 students, only two were able to attend the meeting, which according to superintendent Quincey Gray, can be a pitfall of trying to gather students during summer break. Nonetheless, Cohen Six was recognized for baseball where he achieved FAC All League and first team All District. Also recognized was Katie Cook for her part in track on the 4x100 team, which were the FAC and district champions.

The other spring athletes are: baseball — Connor Chandler - second team all district and Alex Perie - special mention all district; softball — Leah Lovett - honorable mention all district; Olivia Stegbauer - honorable mention all district; Kenzie Wise - second team all district; and Brieann Cummins - FAC all league, first team all district, and honorable mention all Ohio; girls track — Mylie Lovett - high jump FAC Champion, district champion and regional qualifier; Becca Bergstrom - FAC Champion and regional qualifier for pole vault, regional qualifier 200 meter dash; Brenna Wright - FAC Champion 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, district champion 100 and 300 hurdles, state qualifier 300 hurdles; Larah Henson - regional qualifier 800 meter run; the 4x100 team of Mylie Lovett, Brenna Wright, Katie Cook, and Becca Bergstrom - FAC and District champions; and the 4x400 team of Brenna Wright, Larah Henson, Brooklyn Bolender, and Becca Bergstrom - regional qualifier. 

The consent agenda included end-of-year financial housekeeping items like the final appropriations for fiscal year (FY) 2025, approving federal grants for FY2025, approving the temporary appropriations for FY2026, and the approval of transfers for FY2025. A school district’s fiscal year is July 1 through June 30. The board also approved the purchase of the new math curriculum Amplify for elementary students as well as the purchase of Chrome books.

District treasurer Brad Barber discussed the above items, as well as HB 96, which is the state’s budget and its bearing on school district’s in the state. Also accepted as part of the consent agenda were the resignations of fourth grade teacher Amanda Van Dyke, bus driver Alma Shoemaker for retirement, bus driver Debbie Bobb for retirement, second grade teacher Molly Kell, paraprofessional Devin Carter, substitute teacher Melinda McGhee, and head cook Stephanie Mustard.

Employment recommendations approved by the board included Danielle Buhrman - paraprofessional; Samuel Mincey - monitor at Buckskin Elementary; Renee Achtermann - second grade at Rainsboro Elementary; and certified substitutes Brock Haines and Miranda Stidham. Supplemental positions approved included Carolyn Arthurs - sophomore class adviser; Angela Barber - math department leader, National Honor Society; Mark Bihl - senior class adviser; Audrey Case - language arts department leader; Jacob Catrone - social studies department leader; Jeana Copas-McNeal - Greenfield Elementary technology aide; Alabama Cutler - Tigerettes assistant adviser; Rick Duffus - band director, fine arts department leader half year; Loretta Flora - dramatics, high school vocal music; John Gill - high school student council adviser half year; Mary Goolsby - Rainsboro technology aide; Drew Hamilton - girls track coach, fine arts department leader half year, live streaming; Ethan Hurtt - high school Hi-Y adviser; Kassie Hutchinson - annual staff adviser; Ashley Kesler - science department leader, freshman class adviser; Nate Luke - high school technology aide, live streaming, high school robotics, vocational department leader; Schylar Maag - band director; Ashley Rowland - junior class adviser; Rachel Tarlton Soards - National Art Honor Society adviser, Quick Recall team adviser; Lori Tuttle - Drug Free Clubs of America; Ellie Wait - assistant band director, junior class adviser; John Wilson - Honor Guard; Caden Wisecup - eSports adviser; David Weaks - boys track coach, middle school technology aide, middle school robotics, live streaming; Mikel Pritchard - student council adviser half year; Keith Penwell - baseball assistant; Erin Dreher - middle school Hi-Y; Karen Mullikin - Buckskin technology aide; Whitney Vanzant - middle school yearbook, Tigerettes adviser; Racheal Roman - eighth grade volleyball; and Haley Butterbaugh - seventh grade volleyball. Supplemental positions for non-employees included Shane Fligor - Honor Guard; Ashley Karnes - majorette adviser; Bradley Rowland - live streaming; Caleb Cooper - boys wrestling; Donnie Ary - baseball coach; Erick Kegley - girls wrestling; Melvin Immel - wrestling assistant; Tanner McGlone - volunteer assistant football.

The next regular session of the Greenfield Exempted Village School District is scheduled for July 14, 2025 at 7 p.m. in the central office boardroom.
