Perfect state test scores get students recognized at GEVS Board meeting

More than half a dozen students who all achieved perfect scores on various state tests were recognized at Greenfield’s Aug. 11 school board meeting.
Those students recognized were: Maci Wagner - perfect score in fourth grade English language arts state test; Jax Vanzant - perfect score in algebra I state test; Silas Soards - perfect score in sixth grade mathematics state test; Jase Campbell - perfect score in third grade mathematics state test; Kruz Haggerty - perfect score in third grade mathematics state test; Bailey Raike - perfect score in fourth grade mathematics state test; Malcolm Penwell - perfect score in third grade mathematics state test; and Porter Rowe - perfect score in fifth grade science state test.
Each student received a plaque from the school board to commemorate their achievement.
In other business, Superintendent Quincey Gray reported that the district welcomed staff back Monday, which included welcoming activities in the auditorium. One of the other activities of the day that she noted was the middle school staff holding their version of the Amazing Race that took them all over the district. Gray said all the buildings do activities like this to help staff become acquainted with the district and the communities within it.
The welcoming activities for staff kick off the week when students will return to the classrooms for the new school year. Gray said also taking place this week prior to the students’ return is some staff training with AI, which she said will include literacy, policy, as well as student and teacher tools.
On other matters, consent agenda items approved by board of education members included approval of the McClain Dance Team as its own separate entity. According to district treasurer Brad Barber, last year, with the dance team being brand new, it was run under the Tigerettes. Things have gone well, Barber said, and the team is ready to stand on its own, hence the formal recognition as a district-managed student activity.
Barber, in his report, briefly touched on the state’s budget and discussed in greater detail the district’s investment portfolio, noting what avenues of investment are allowed, given the type of entity the district is, and how those avenues are being utilized with the district investments.
Employment recommendations approved by the board included Shawna Conger - paraprofessional; Chris Goddard - bus driver; Bridgette Smith - paraprofessional; Brittany Stith - paraprofessional; Kristen Marsh - paraprofessional; Drew Hamilton - girls soccer assistant; Bob Bergstrom - track and football assistant; Nathan Cook - assistant transportation supervisor; Erin Dreher - middle school Hi-Y advisor; and certified substitutes Stacey Beachey, Melinda McGhee, Jordan Darling, and Tosha Freeze.
The next regular meeting of the Greenfield Exempted Village School District Board of Education is scheduled for Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. at Rainsboro Elementary.
