MHS Day is May 8; annual event gives students opportunity to serve their community in many ways

Since 2015, McClain students have dispersed across Greenfield and beyond to serve the community. This annual event is called MHS Day, and this year’s is set to happen on Friday, May 8.
The whole high school is involved in this day of community service, and most of the teachers and staff join in and are out in the community right along with the students.
“Watching everyone come together every year for efforts centered around making our community even better is a great feeling,” McClain Principal Matt Shelton said previously, adding that everyone is always excited for MHS Day.
As with previous years, students’ tasks for the day will include trash pickup around town, mulching and landscaping downtown, painting, cleaning at the cemetery, clean-up and painting at the parks, planting flowers, and other various projects in and around Greenfield.
Other projects, according to McClain FFA members Hanna West and Avery Murphy who are heading up organization of the event, will include making tie blankets for nursing home residents, helping to prepare for the upcoming G3 (Grow Greater Greenfield) Wine Walk event, food pantry drive-thru distribution, assisting with the Tiger Cub Closet, and helping out at New Directions.
As with the last few years, the McClain FFA has handled organizing all the projects to be done. On the day of the event, students and staff will get started around 8 a.m. then head back to the school for lunch. Following that, all will be able to participate in some fun activities at the school.
This year’s event shirt color is neon purple, so make sure to watch out for all those students in and around town on May 8 giving their time and effort to serve our community.

“It’s been great to see students continue to step up and take ownership of MHS Day each year,” Shelton said. “Their leadership and commitment show how much they value this community, and it’s rewarding to watch them carry on a tradition of giving back in such a meaningful way.”
