The Highland County GOP Family Picnic was held Sunday, Aug. 23 with a large crowd in attendance for a barbecue pork and brisket dinner at the Wharton Building on the county fairgrounds.
A highlight of the picnic was welcoming former Congressman Brad Wenstrup and his son, Brad Jr., to the event.
Wenstrup spoke of his present work with government agencies and the importance of keeping a majority in Congress. He then introduced Congressman Mike Carey and applauded the work Carey has done in the House.
Carey spoke of his “family roots” in Careytown and said he feels privileged to running in the 15th District, which includes Highland County.
Supreme Court candidates Colleen O’Donnell, State Senator Shane Wilkin, State Representative Bob Peterson, Common Pleas Judges-elect John Judkins and Denny Kirk and Commissioner Brad Roades were introduced and spoke to the crowd.
Information on Issue 3 (making Ohio’s photo ID requirement permanent by putting it in our state constitution) was explained by Gary Cates, member of the State Central Committee.
The memorable evening ended with everyone singing “God Bless America,” led by the Sellerses’ daughters.
