Highland County officials celebrate Statehouse Day in Columbus

Highland County officials, industry leaders and stakeholders gathered in Columbus for Highland County Statehouse Day, a special occasion to highlight the county’s strengths, foster connections with state leaders, and advocate for continued growth and investment in the county.
The day featured a series of informative presentations and discussions with key leaders from across Ohio’s government and economic development sectors.
Attendees were honored to hear from John Carey, director of the Governor’s Office of Appalachia; Stephen Dackin, director of the Department of Education and Workforce; Sen. Shane Wilkin; Rep. Bob Peterson; Drew Cooper, JobsOhio director of Government Affairs; Matt Abbott, pPresident of OhioSE; Giles Allen, director of Legislative Affairs for Gov. Mike DeWine; and Todd Thatcher, Rob Hamilton and Kirk Hines of the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
These leaders shared insights on a variety of topics vital to Highland County and the broader Appalachian region, including workforce development, agricultural innovation, and economic partnerships.
In addition to the engaging presentations, participants enjoyed a guided tour of Ohio’s historic Statehouse.
A special highlight of the day was a private historical tour of Gov. DeWine’s office, graciously led by Ethan Reynolds, Southwest Ohio regional liaison.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to connect directly with state leaders and to showcase the priorities and potential of Highland County,” said Julie Bolender, director of Economic Development. “Statehouse Day our chance to advocate for our priorities and helps ensure our community remains an active voice in Ohio’s future.”
Highland County Statehouse Day continues to strengthen the vital bridge between local communities and state leadership, reaffirming a shared commitment to progress and prosperity in Appalachian Ohio.
