The Highland County Board of Elections this week conducted a recount for the Lynchburg-Clay School Board, Greenfield Council at Large and Madison Township trustee races, with the final certified results submitted to the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office on Dec. 7.

According to Highland County BOE Deputy Director Michelle Swallen, Ashley Watson won the third seat on the Lynchburg-Clay Local Schools board, Carlos Ooten won the Greenfield Council at Large race and Joshua Roe won the Madison Township trustee race.

Following the official count conducted Nov. 27, there was a tie for one of the three open seats on the Lynchburg-Clay board, between Watson and write-in candidate Stacie Rhonemus, in Highland County. There was a five-count difference on election night, with Rhonemus leading in Highland County. However, the race also appeared on the ballot for certain voters in Brown and Clinton counties.

Also elected, as previously announced, were candidates Cathy Griffith and Becky Sanderson. None of the candidates running for the three open seats are currently on the board.

After the official count, the Greenfield council at large race showed Greenfield business owner Carlos Ooten winning the race by a margin of one vote. On election night, Ooten had a six-vote lead over former Highland Village Council member Donald Davy.

In addition to Ooten, reelected to council were Brenda Losey and Mary Ellen McMurry.

A recount was also held for the Madison Township Trustee race, with the results remaining the same, as the official count showed challenger Joshua Roe defeating current trustee Daniel Mathews by 40 votes.
