Heritage Ohio to host preservation assessment workshop in Greenfield July 29-30

GREENFIELD – Heritage Ohio is pleased to announce that Greenfield will host the next Preservation Assessment Workshop (PAW) on July 29-30, offering downtown building owners and community members expert insight into preserving historic properties.

The workshop begins with a free public lecture on Tuesday, July 29 at 5:30 p.m. at Posey’s Plaza in downtown Greenfield. No RSVP is required, and all are welcome to attend. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The featured speaker will be David Mertz, former director of Belmont College’s nationally recognized Building Preservation/Restoration program. Mertz will discuss the most common issues that impact aging buildings, such as water infiltration and masonry failure. His talk will focus on helping property owners identify early warning signs, plan effective maintenance routines, and preserve the structural integrity and historical character of their buildings.

On Wednesday, July 30, Mertz will conduct on-site building assessments with a group of property owners in Downtown Greenfield. These one-on-one consultations are designed to help building owners better understand their property’s current condition and take informed steps toward preservation and maintenance. Heritage Ohio staff will follow up to ensure property owners receive practical recommendations and clear next steps.

Heritage Ohio thanks Main Street Downtown Greenfield for bringing this workshop to town. Special appreciation is also extended to the State of Ohio for its support in helping underwrite the program and promote downtown revitalization across the state.
