With the new school year fast approaching, a large part of the Greenfield board of education’s business at its meeting on July 14 dealt with employment. But there were also some updates on buildings and grounds.

As there are several projects going on this summer at Greenfield schools, those updates included the auditorium revitalization, science lab project, FFA outdoor learning area and barn, and concrete work.

As of the end of June, more than $100,000 has been raised toward the work in the auditorium. The last time the space was redone was in the 1980s. Carpet, painting, seating, curtains, and sound system are all part of the various steps to redoing the auditorium. A donor wall is also planned to highlight all who have been a part of making it happen. The design for the wall is in the final stages of approval.

With the science lab project, which is seeing to the necessary refurbishment of the area, the building and grounds committee toured the site at its June 30 meeting. It is reported that things are moving along smoothly. Committee members also toured the courtyard to view concrete work in progress.

All buildings have been completed for the FFA outdoor learning area and barn. The next steps are to add rolling doors and eventually add concrete flooring.

In other business, board members accepted consent agenda items that included the approval of the student wellness and success plan for the coming year, the resignation of teacher Alabama Cutler, and the resignation of cook Jessica Perkins.
