Greenfield Elementary School students are once again showing their artistic talents beyond the halls of the school.

Two students’ art will be showcased in an upcoming exhibit in Columbus sponsored by the Ohio Art Education Association. The works in the upcoming show were created as part of Youth Art Month in Ohio, which was in December.

According to Greenfield Elementary art teacher William Roller, he had to choose the work of two students to represent the school for the southwestern district of the Ohio Art Education Association. He said his students had the choice to participate or not, and around a dozen of them did. But to make the choices, he said he formed a small panel of current and  former staff to assist in choosing the two pieces to represent the school.

Those choices were creations by fifth grader Laken Sollars and third grader Teresa Cumbo. Sollars’s graphic design piece was inspired by Vincent van Gogh, and received an honorable mention. Cumbo’s piece is a colorful flag design, which was part of the flag design category.

Both students and their families are invited to attend the Youth Art Month recognition exhibition on March 14 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital where their art will not only be exhibited, but where they will be treated to an awards ceremony and a reception.

The pride of McClain goes with the students as they prepare for the exhibition. Roller said he is very excited for the girls. “Both young ladies love art. They are very creative and really embrace every challenge in art class.”

Greenfield Elementary has its own Facebook page and information about what’s going on at the school can always be found there. To follow along with all the good things happening in the Greenfield Exempted Village School District, go to the district website at greenfield.k12.oh.us or go to the district’s social media pages.

Teresa Cumbo, a third-grader at Greenfield Elementary, created a flag design (below) that will be part of the Youth in Art Month recognition exhibition in Columbus next month.
