The Ohio High School Athletic Association has announced the preliminary divisional breakdowns and regional tournament representation for the upcoming fall sports. The OHSAA Board of Directors approved the new divisions and tournament representation last week during its April board meeting, which included the previously announced football divisions and regions.  

Playing in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play on Friday, the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats lost to the host Ripley Blue Jays by an 11-1 score in five innings. 

Scoring 20 runs in the first three innings, followed by two final runs in the fifth, the Whiteoak Wildcats won big on the road in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action, defeating the Ripley Blue Jays, 22-4 Friday (April 26) at RHS.

Thursday saw the Fairfield Lions earn the regular-season sweep of rival Whiteoak in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play, using a five-run second inning to set the pace for the remainder of the game, winning by an 8-2 score at Fairfield High School. 

Following a week that saw the Fairfield Lady Lions outscore their opponents 53-1 and belt 18 extra-base hits, including eight home runs in four consecutive victories, the Lady Lions showed their versatility by using the bunt, aggressive base running, stringing together single after single en route to another win. 

The Southeast District of the OHSAA released the 2024 softball tournament brackets Sunday afternoon.

Tuesday and Wednesday saw the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats fall in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action, as Tuesday (April 23) they fell to Fayetteville, followed by a loss on Wednesday (April 24) to the Peebles Lady Indians. 

Local athletes from Inspire Training Center (ITC) earned gold, triumphing at the prestigious All Star World Championship, the world’s largest all-star cheerleading competition held in Orlando, Fla. 

Hillsboro High School’s track and field program hosted an invitational Friday, April 19, with 13 different high schools — including four from Highland County — represented.

Whiteoak added a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win to their overall total on Saturday (April 20) against Ripley, but lost a conference game on Friday (April 19) to Manchester. 

Three two-run innings on offense, added with a strong pitching effort by Cole Wells, sent the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs to a 6-4 victory over conference and Highland County rival Whiteoak on Thursday at WHS. 

Scoring runs in the fifth and seventh innings, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs defeated the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats, 4-2, overcoming a two-run deficit to gain the Southern Hills Athletic Conference win.

Going on the road for two consecutive days, the Whiteoak Wildcats defeated both the Peebles Indians and the Fayetteville Rockets for Southern Hills Athletic Conference wins.
