The Southern Hills Athletic Conference this week announced the 2023-24 All-SHAC winter teams, with 22 Highland County basketball and bowling athletes, plus three coaches, honored.

The No. 2 seeded Fairfield Lions have advanced to the next round and are sectional champions once again, as they defeated a county and conference rival, the No. 15 seeded Whiteoak Wildcats, in their Division IV SE District Sectional Final game Saturday night at Miami Trace High School, 63-27. 

The 2023-24 season for the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats came to a close Thursday night at Wellston High School, falling in their Division IV SE District Semifinal game to the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings, 58-47.

The following is a look at Lynchburg-Clay’s Division III SE District Semifinal and Whiteoak’s Division IV SE District Semifinal, both set for Thursday, Feb. 22.  

The Whiteoak Wildcats are headed to the sectional finals by way of winning their Division IV SE District Sectional Semifinal game Tuesday night at home against the Eastern (Reedsville) Eagles, 60-47. 

Highland County had 10 boys basketball players named to the 2023-24 District 14 Coaches Association All-District teams, including two first-team honorees and a co-Player of the Year.

Highland County had 14 individuals earning 2023-24 District 14 Coaches Association All-District girls basketball honors, including two first-team selections and an Assistant Coach of the Year, as announced Tuesday.

Following a first quarter where the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats had more than their share of struggles after not playing a game for two weeks, they eventually got the hot hand, made their baskets and left Hillsboro High School with the net, winning their second consecutive Division IV SE District Sectional championship. 

It was a wild ride for the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs on Friday night in their regular-season finale against their rival Whiteoak, as they overcame a 16-point halftime deficit and scored the only points in overtime to win by a 35-33 final score.

Wednesday (Feb. 7) saw the Whiteoak Wildcats host the Bethel-Tate Tigers in non-conference action, and the final result was the Wildcats losing on their home court by a 64-46 score.
