Overcoming some rain, a bases-loaded fourth inning and a seventh inning with two runners on the bases, the Fairfield Lions overcame those obstacles and then some as they earned a third consecutive sectional championship by defeating the No. 17 seeded Eastern Eagles, 2-0 at Fairfield High School.

Fairfield’s baseball team finished in first place in Division II of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference with a SHAC record of 10-3.

Having bookend two-run innings, mixed in with a one-run inning in their Division III SE District Semifinal game on Monday at Ohio University, the Fairfield Lady Lions defeated the Northwest Lady Mohawks by a 5-3 score to move onto the district finals. 

The Fairfield Lady Lions hosted the Westfall Lady Mustangs Thursday (May 9) in a Division III sectional final game at Fairfield High School for the second consecutive year.  

The 2024 Southern Hills Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships were held at Manchester High School on Friday evening, where the Fairfield Lady Lions won the girls championship, while the Whiteoak boys placed as runners-up in the boys event. 

The Fairfield Lady Lions closed out the regular season in a big way, defeating the West Union Lady Dragons, 22-0 as Katelyn Chambliss and Caitlyn Quickle combined to pitch a perfect game, facing the minimum 15 batters in the five-inning contest at Fairfield High School. 

On Friday night, the Fairfield Lions clinched a Southern Hills Athletic Conference championship, winning the Division II title by defeating the West Union 12-0 at Fairfield High School. 

Two Fairfield High School seniors have signed their national letters of intent to attend and play baseball at the collegiate level.

The Fairfield Lions traveled to Greenfield on Monday night to face McClain in an always-tough county rival contest, and after seven innings were in the books, it was the visitors winning, 8-0 on Tom Hixson Field.

On Monday, the Ohio High School Athletic Association released the tentative divisional breakdowns and regional tournament representation for winter sports with the exception of wrestling, and Highland County schools will see changes in boys and girls basketball. 

The Fairfield Lady Lions traveled to Whiteoak High School in Mowrystown Wednesday to face the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats on Senior Day. 

The Ohio High School Athletic Association has announced the preliminary divisional breakdowns and regional tournament representation for the 2024-25 winter sports postseason tournaments.
