The 2024 spring baseball and softball seasons were full of great success for Highland County teams, and to cap off the end-of-season honors, five athletes from the county were selected to their respective baseball and softball All-Ohio teams by the coaches from the state.

The 2024 All-Southeast District baseball teams have been selected by coaches of the district, with 19 baseball players, along with one coach, honored this spring.

The 2024 Southeast District Softball Coaches have released their All-District teams for the spring 2024 season, with 17 Highland County athletes honored.

The historic 2024 baseball season of the Fairfield Lions came to a close on Friday evening at Beavers Field, falling to the Berlin Hiland Hawks, 18-0 in the Division IV Regional Finals.

Two of Fairfield’s top student-athletes have qualified for the 2024 OHSAA State Track and Field Championships this week at the University of Dayton’s Welcome Stadium.

For the first time in 22 years, the Southeast District 2 champion Fairfield Lions baseball program will be playing in a regional semifinal game, with the Lions preparing to face the Northwest 6 District champion, the Greenwich South Central Trojans, at Beavers Field in Lancaster Thursday, May 30 at 6 p.m.

The 116th Annual Boys and 49th Annual Girls Ohio High School Athletic Association Track and Field State Tournament begins Thursday afternoon at Welcome Stadium in Dayton.

A total of 13 Highland County athletes have punched their tickets for the 2024 OHSAA Track & Field State Tournament after their qualifying finishes at the Div. II and Div. III regional meets.

Sometimes the wait is worth it, and on Monday, the 22 years of waiting for the Fairfield Lions was well worth the celebration and excitement by the current 2024 Lions. First baseman Corbin Willey fielded a ground ball with two outs, raced to first and ran over the base with unbridled excitement — with his arms raised in victory — for a five-inning, 11-1 win over Racine Southern, giving the Lions their first district championship in baseball since 2002. 

Twenty-two years of frustration without a district championship ended on Monday afternoon for the Fairfield Lions baseball program. 

Highland County track and field athletes excelled at the Division III Southeast District meet held May 15 and 17 at Nelsonville-York. The meet saw the Fairfield Lady Lions team earn a district runner-up trophy, while Highland County athletes also won district titles and broke records along the way.
