    A company formed by executives of the Brown Publishing Company appears to be the high bidder for the bankrupt Brown Publishing Company, according to U.S. Bankruptcy Court records. Brown Publishing Company filed for bankruptcy earlier this year in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Eastern District of New York. The company claimed it had more than $90 million in debts.

    Jim Rosenberg, a senior editor at E&P, reports, "The committee argues that 'the process pursued by the debtors and its representatives was designed to be anything but a thorough, robust, competitive process.' It opposes acceptance of a bid for three parcels of land, calling the proposed transaction 'not even marginally reasonable.'

  • Cordray secures record settlement with AIG for Ohio
    Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray has announced a $725 million securities class action settlement against international insurance and financial services organization American International Group, Inc. (AIG) and certain individual directors and officers. The settlement resolves allegations of AIG's wide-ranging fraud from October 1999 to April 2005 involving anti-competitive market division, accounting violations and stock price manipulation, and brings total expected recovery for AIG shareholders to over $1 billion. The settlement is subject to court approval.
