Wilmington man sentenced to community control in Highland County drug case

A Wilmington man was sentenced recently to community control after pleading guilty to a drug trafficking charge in Highland County Common Pleas Court.

Mykal Montgomery, 29, was indicted by a Highland County grand jury in May and charged with one count of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine, a fourth-degree felony, and one count of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, a fifth-degree felony. The indictment was initially sealed, or made secret, until Montgomery’s arrest in June.

According to court records, Montgomery pleaded guilty to the trafficking charge in July, with the possession charge dismissed.

For that charge, the indictment alleged that on or about July 24, 2025, Montgomery “did knowingly sell or offer to sell” meth.

At an Aug. 20 hearing, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Montgomery to three years of community control and ordered Montgomery to complete substance use disorder and/or mental health treatment. Montgomery was additionally ordered to pay $20 in restitution to the Highland County Task Force.
