Wilkin announces funding for Appalachian economic development
State Senator Shane Wilkin (R-Hillsboro) announced the Appalachian Regional Commission is investing in two economic development projects in Ross and Lawrence counties.
"I'm excited to see more funding coming to our local communities for projects that will fuel our economy and help our workforce," Wilkin said. "These efforts will allow Southern Ohio students and families succeed for generations."
The Appalachian Regional Commission awarded:
• Collins Career Technical Center in Chesapeake $46,900 to develop the K-12 workforce pipeline for advanced manufacturing and technology jobs in the region. The funding will support renovations to modernize the manufacturing center and improve educational programs.
• Adena Local School district in Frankfort $40,000 to develop plans to support STEM workforce development and training needs for at-risk populations.
The funding is part of the federal Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) Initiative, which aims to help support economic development and workforce efforts in areas impacted by coal-related job losses. More than $8.2 million for eight projects in Ohio were selected by the Appalachian Regional Commission.
