Washington CH man sentenced to 3 years in Highland County failure to comply case

A Washington Court House man was sentenced recently to three years in prison after pleading guilty to a failure to comply charge in Highland County.

As previously reported, Bryson L. Rickman, 27, of Washington Court House was indicted by a Highland County grand jury in May and was charged with one count each of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and tampering with evidence, both third-degree felonies. According to court records, Rickman pleaded guilty to the failure to comply charge July 9, with the tampering charge dismissed.

It is alleged that on or about March 8, a Greenfield Police officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by Rickman. A bill of particulars alleged that Rickman “accelerated at a high rate of speed and failed to stop,” heading out of the village of Greenfield and toward Ross County. 

Rickman is also accused of “speeding up and continuing” after a Highland County Sheriff’s deputy activated the lights and sirens on his cruiser as well.

After accepting Rickman’s guilty plea, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced him to 36 months in prison, with one day of jail time credit. In addition, Rickman’s driver’s license will be suspended for three years, effective July 9. 

Rickman was admitted into the Correctional Reception Center in Orient July 22, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
