Peebles man sentenced to prison in Highland County drug trafficking case

A Peebles man was sentenced to prison recently after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges in Highland County. 

As previously reported, Shane Pitts, 54, was indicted by a Highland County grand jury in April and charged with three counts of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine and three counts of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, all third-degree felonies. The indictment came as the result of a Highland County Task Force investigation. 

According to court records, Pitts pleaded guilty to two of the three trafficking charges, with the other trafficking count and all three possession charges dismissed, on July 1.

Those charges stemmed from two separate alleged incidents (one in March 2025 and one in June 2025) where Pitts is accused of “knowingly selling or offering to sell” meth in an amount equal to or exceeding bulk amount but less than five times bulk amount.

After accepting Pitts’ guilty pleas, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Pitts to 18 months on each count, to be served consecutively, for a total of three years in prison. Pitts had 85 days of jail time credit. He was also ordered to pay $385 in restitution to the Highland County Task Force.

Pitts was admitted into the London Correctional Institution on July 8, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
