New Carlisle man sentenced for theft from Highland County business
Over a year after being charged with stealing a trailer from a local business, a New Carlisle man has been sentenced for theft by deception in Highland County Common Pleas Court.
David C. Caroppoli, 42, was indicted by a Highland County grand jury in January 2022 and charged with theft by deception and forgery, both fifth-degree felonies.
He pleaded guilty April 27 to the theft charge, with the forgery count dismissed, according to court records.
The indictment alleged that on or about Oct. 11, 2021, Caroppoli “did knowingly obtain or exert control over” a trailer valued at $4,244 from a Highland County business.
Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Caroppoli to nine months in prison. That sentence is to run consecutively to prison terms already imposed in Clark County Common Pleas Court, for a total of four years and nine months altogether.
According to court records, Caroppoli was sentenced in February 2022 in connection with two separate cases in Clark County. For a fifth-degree felony count of forgery, he received a 12-month sentence, and for a third-degree felony charge of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, he was sentenced to three years in prison.
Caroppoli has been incarcerated in the Pickaway Correctional Institution since March 25, 2022, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
