Johnson announces funding for economic development

State Senator Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) announced the state will invest $917,536 for brownfield remediation projects in Scioto County.

"These funds will take these former gas stations in our communities and prepare them for the future," Johnson said. "I am excited to see these projects get started so we can continue Scioto County's success."

• McDermott Stop N Shop: $397,541 for the excavation and disposal of contaminated soil and groundwater from a former gas station to prepare the site for commercial or industrial use.

• Otway Gas Station: $259,997 to remove underground storage tanks, petroleum-impacted water and contaminated soil at the site for future redevelopment.

• West Portsmouth Former Gas Station: $259,998 to remove underground storage tanks, dispenser islands and contaminated soils from the location for its future development.

This funding is part of the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program that is currently funded through House Bill 33, the state's main operating budget, which Johnson supported. This program aims to help clean up industrial, commercial and institutional brownfield sites. The grant program launched in 2021 and since then has awarded more than $636 million to support 626 projects in 86 counties.

Senator Johnson represents the 14th District in the Ohio Senate, which encompasses all of Adams, Brown, Clermont and Scioto counties.
