Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Press Release

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of approximately 90 guns from a Jackson-based auction business, the office announced last week.

On Thursday, Nov. 10 at approximately 8:16 a.m., Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a Jackson business for a reported theft of firearms.

The business representative reported they were having an auction the next day with approximately 150 guns to be sold. When the representative arrived at the building, he discovered that someone had forced entry, finding approximately 90 guns missing.

“The Ohio Bureau of Identification and Investigation (BCI&I) as well as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are now involved in this investigation,” Sheriff Tedd Frazier said. “We are searching for rifles, pistols and shotguns of varying makes, models and calibers.

“We are following leads in this case. If you have information regarding this gun theft, please contact my office by calling (740) 286-6464.”

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office strongly recommends that no citizen take individual action based on the information in this database. If you come across a gun listed in the database, notify your local law enforcement agency or the agency that originally reported the weapon stolen.

“I encourage individuals purchasing guns to check the Ohio Stolen Gun Portal, a searchable website designed by the Ohio Attorney General to increase public safety by helping to identify and recover stolen firearms,” the Sheriff encouraged.
