A Greenfield man indicted in connection with a Highland County Task Force case in May was sentenced this week to 33 months in prison for trafficking meth.

Jeffrey W. Duncan, 50, was indicted May 7 on two counts of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine, a third- and a fourth-degree felony; and two counts of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, a third- and a fifth-degree felony.

As previously reported, local law enforcement executed search warrants and made multiple arrests in Hillsboro, Greenfield and Rocky Fork Lake areas May 9, after a Highland County grand jury handed down 15 indictments in connection with Highland County Task Force investigations.

The charges were the result of ongoing work of the Highland County Task Force and local county law enforcement partners to stop drug trafficking in the area. Highland County Task Force, Highland County Sheriff’s Office, Hillsboro Police Department and Greenfield Police Department officers participated in the May 9 arrest roundup.

According to court records, Duncan pleaded guilty to the two trafficking charges in June, with the possession charges dismissed.

For those counts, it is alleged that on or about Jan. 14, a confidential informant (CI) working with the Task Force met with Duncan at his Greenfield residence, where Duncan sold the CI 1.86 grams of meth.

On or about Jan. 16, it was alleged that a CI arranged to purchase more meth at Duncan’s house, and on this occasion Duncan sold 7.16 grams of meth to the CI.

During a sentencing hearing Aug. 7, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss agreed to follow the recommended sentence in the case, imposing a nine-month prison term on the fourth-degree felony count consecutive to a 24-month sentence on the third-degree felony charge.

“I note that you have previously completed recovery programs,” Coss told Duncan. “Despite all of these programs, you continue to sell drugs. You’ve reached a point in your career where you’re going to have to be held accountable for the offenses.”

Duncan had three days of jail time credit. He was also ordered to pay $160 in restitution to the Task Force.
