A Greenfield man was sentenced to community control recently after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges.

Jesse Wheaton, 51, was indicted by a Highland County grand jury in September on charges of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine and aggravated possession of methamphetamine, both third-degree felonies. The indictment was initially made secret.

According to court records, Wheaton pleaded guilty to the trafficking charge in October, with the possession charge dismissed.

The indictment alleged that “on or about Dec. 7, 2022 and in Highland County, Wheaton did knowingly sell or offer to sell methamphetamine … in an amount equal to or exceeding bulk amount but less than five times bulk amount.”

During a sentencing hearing Nov. 16, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Wheaton to three years of community control. Wheaton was also ordered to pay $200 in restitution to the Highland County Task Force and to successfully complete a drug treatment program.
