A Chillicothe man was sentenced to prison recently after pleading guilty to theft from a Highland County residence.

Shane M. Rhoads, 36, was indicted by a Highland County grand jury in February on charges of breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony; theft, a fifth-degree felony; and criminal damaging, a second-degree misdemeanor.

According to court records, Rhoads pleaded guilty to the theft charge March 23, with the other two charges dismissed.

The indictment alleged that in December, Rhoads entered a local residence, where he “did knowingly obtain or exert control” over property valued between $1,000 and $7,500, including “dishes, tools, clothing and other miscellaneous items.”

After accepting Rhoads’ guilty plea, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Rhoads to a definite determinate term of 10 months in prison.

Rhoads was admitted into the Correctional Reception Center in Orient April 3, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
