  • Final defendants apprehended in 38-person Chillicothe drug trafficking case plead guilty
    Daniel Vance Walls, 45, of Bainbridge and Mark L. May, 51, of Peebles, have pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana from late 1997 through March 2008; and attempted possession with intent to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana on Oct. 17, 2004. They are the last of 38 defendants apprehended due to charges filed in a series of indictments beginning in Oct. 2004 through Feb. 2009, as part of a large-scale drug trafficking investigation in south central Ohio. All others apprehended as part of the investigation have pleaded guilty.

    Hillsboro, OH (February 17, 2010) —Today, NCB, FSB, a federally chartered savings bank dedicated to serving cooperatives, reported a net income of $3.4 million for the fourth quarter 2009.   NCB, FSB also reported total assets of $1.6 billion and total deposits of $1.2 billion as of December 31, 2009.

    The city of Greenfield Interim City Manager Betty Bishop and the Greenfield City Council are planning a "Light Up Greenfield" day, tentatively scheduled for Feb. 27. As city manager, Bishop wanted to come up with a plan that would help keep the city safe while allowing the town to get some positive publicity.

    Street conditions in the City of Hillsboro are very slick and hazardous. Snow is falling at a rate difficult for street crews to keep up with. Some of the larger hills are difficult for most vehicles. The weather forecast indicates continuing snow throughout the rest of the day with a storm warning until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16. It is strongly recommended that anyone who doesn't need to be out should remain off the streets and roadways if possible. Below are some hazardous weather reminders.

    A winter storm warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16 for all of Highland County and southern Ohio. Snow is expected to be heavy at times Monday, with accumulations ranging from 3 to 8 inches.

  • Lynchburg receives stimulus funding; completes drinking water protection plan
    The village of Lynchburg recently completed a Drinking Water Source Protection Plan. This is an action plan that identifies possible contaminants to the Lynchburg Drinking Water System and provides protective strategies. This plan was developed by the Drinking Water Protection Team which was composed of the Village Administrator Nicole Oberrecht, Water & Wastewater Supervisor Mark Suitor, and Scott Brown of the Ohio Rural Water Association.
