Informational meeting for proposed major utility facility Aug. 20 at SSCC
Barr Energy Storage, LLC (“Barr”) has scheduled a public information meeting to discuss the Barr Energy Center (the “Project”), a proposed 200 MW battery energy storage system (“BESS”) in the City of Hillsboro, Highland County. Barr intends to file an application to the Ohio Power Siting Board for the Project on or about September 2026.
The Project will consist of an up to 200 MW BESS on approximately 35 acres. The Project is intended to interconnect into the PJM regional grid via a 0.2 mile transmission line to the Hillsboro-Millbrook 138kV AEP line. Construction of the Project is anticipated to begin in the third quarter of 2028 and be completed in the fourth quarter of 2030.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug. 20 from 5-7 p.m. at Southern State Community College, 100 Hobart Dr., Hillsboro. The meeting format will be similar to an open house, with attendees welcome to stop by at any time during the scheduled hours. Maps of the project area will be available to review and Project representatives will be available to answer questions.
