To the editor:
The annual Leesburg Luminaria is Sunday, Dec. 14, sponsored by the Leesburg Lions Club.
Young folks and other community members are needed and encouraged to help with this event. Please note that our Friendly Village is unique in its celebration of Luminaria each December, which began in 1989 and has grown over the years.
The current members are aging and eagerly welcome others to infuse new energy and enthusiasm. This international organization promotes community, national and worldwide missions focusing on eye care, glasses, sight and light to those in need, just as candles light up Leesburg.
Many of you young folks have written essays in the sixth grade about Luminaria and been selected for the Luminaria Royalty. Please consider stepping up and helping Leesburg to continue this evening of beauty and fellowship.
You are encouraged to find your friends, give me a call at (937) 763-0146 or Lion President Jay Newland at (937) 661-5984. You could become a future member and help continue the Lions contributions to our village.
This event begins at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14. There will be businesses open which will feature hospitality treats, a chance to visit Santa, a soup supper, and wagon rides around the village. The Luminaria court will be introduced at the Leesburg Library at 5:45 p.m.
The church service will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Leesburg Friends Church, where the selected students will share their essays. The candle kits will be available at Saucy Sisters Pizza during their operating hours after Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Nellda Friend
