Two Highland County counterparts packed the Lynchburg-Clay gym Friday night with the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs and the Fairfield Lions giving everyone in attendance their money’s worth and then some, with both teams playing fast-paced basketball and having scoring runs that changed the pace of the game.
The first half for the Fairfield Lady Lions was very strong as they entered the halftime break with the lead. However, for the second half that wasn’t the case with the visiting North Adams Lady Green Devils taking more control of the game, forcing turnovers and capitalizing on them for a 67-54 victory over the host Lady Lions.
The holidays are done and over with, so now with the sporadic schedule of games out of the way, it is time to get back on track and back to more of a normal schedule when it comes to Highland County athletics.

Friday night for Highland County basketball fans will be an excellent way to start the weekend as all five high school boys basketball teams will take the court, including three games being played at home.
Tuesday night was a great night for the Fairfield Lions as they moved to 5-0 overall on the season and 3-0 in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference. They’ve done so with a new head coach in Josh Howland and mostly a brand-new lineup, where they’ve had some very balanced scoring.
This past weekend saw Lynchburg-Clay senior Eric McLaughlin earn his 1,000th career point, coming against Miami Trace Saturday night in a home non-conference game at LCHS. He did so by scoring his 1,000th point with a slam dunk.
It’s Friday night, and with the bitter winter cold all around us, it is time to sit in a warm gym and watch some boys basketball to begin the weekend. If you want to stay in Highland County, there are two games that can provide that comfort.
