Wildcats sweep DH against Northwest

MOWRYSTOWN — The Whiteoak Wildcats hosted and swept a weekend doubleheader Saturday afternoon, defeating Northwest 4-0 and 10-6 at WHS.
The non-league wins lift WHS to 4-3 overall this season.
The entire doubleheader, our at-bats were excellent," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. "We moved runners over from second base with no outs, we scored runners from third with ground balls and fly balls with less than two outs.
"What pleased me was we scored seven two-out runs. We made contact."
In two games, WHS struck out just five times.
"We saw Northwest's No. 1 pitcher in game one, and our outs were hard outs," Veidt said. "We went three or more pitches with two strikes, including Jesse Bradds' seven-pitch and nine-pitch at-bats with 2 strikes.
"We played Wildcat baseball."
In game one of the doubleheader, WHS scored one run in the second and third innings and added two more in the sixth.
Nathan Hauke led WHS with two hits (2-for-3) and Michael Smith, Zach Docter, Cage Carraher and Tyler Williams each had one hit.
WHS totaled six hits in the game. Doc Seip had two sacrifice fly, collecting two RBIs.
Docter earned the pitching win, improving to 1-1 overall. Docter allowed no runs on seven hits and one walk. The junior struck out 15 batters.
In the second game of the twin bill, where WHS won by the aforementioned 10-6 score, the Wildcats totaled nine hits with Smith going 3-for-4 with three runs, including two doubles. Carraher was 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
The score was tied at 1-1 after the first inning, but WHS added three runs in the second for a 3-1 lead.
Each team scored one run in the third, and WHS came back with a three-run fourth for a lead of 8-2. In the fifth, NW added two runs, and each team scored two runs in the sixth.
Docter finished 1-for-3, and Tyler Roberts was 1-for-3 with one run and two RBIs. Jesse Bradds was 1-for-2 (one double) with one RBI.
Hauke (1-1) earned the win on the mound, pitching 5 2-3 innings. Hauke allowed six runs (five earned) on 11 hits and one walk. He struck out two batters. Carraher pitched 1 1-3 innings of relief, allowing no hits, no runs and one walk. Carraher struck out three batters for his first save of the season.
WHS will play again on Tuesday, April 3 at Eastern Brown. On Thursday, April 5, WHS will host Fairfield, both games being Southern Hills League games, Saturday, April 7 in the Wildcat Invitational starting at 10 a.m.
