Wildcats score 13 runs in win over Paint Valley

The Whiteoak Wildcats earned their first victory of the season Monday by defeating the visiting Paint Valley Bearcats, 13-11 at WHS in non-conference action.
The Wildcats trailed 6-0 after the first inning was complete, but they came back in the bottom of the second with a four-run second inning. PV scored four runs in the top of the third, but WHS answered with a five-run fourth inning to get back to within a run of the Bearcats at 10-9.
Each team scored one run in the fifth inning, but WHS took the lead for good with a three-run inning in the sixth.

“What a tremendous comeback,” WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. “We were down 6-0 right off the bat, but the kids just kept fighting. They played every pitch and truly believed they would win. I can't say enough about our total team effort.”
Trever Yeager led WHS at the plate at 2-for-4 with a triple, one run and three RBIs. Traeten Hamilton was 1-for-2 with with two runs and two RBIs. Zach Harless finished 1-for-4 with one run and three RBIs.
Also for the Wildcats, Brandon Lowe was 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Chase Butler finished 1-for-3 with one run and two RBIs.
“We scored eight two-out runs. Zach Harless and Traeten Hamilton delivered huge RBI hits for us in the four-run second,” Veidt said. “Chase Butler delivered a big two-run, two-out single in the fourth. Trever Yeager was huge for us (Monday) in so many areas.
“He delivered a run-scoring triple with two outs in the second and ran the bases extremely well, including a steal of home. He also closed the door with 3.1 innings of two-hit relief for the win. There is no quit in these ’Cats.”
Yeager (1-0) was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats. He pitched 3.1 innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits and three walks. He also collected two strikeouts.
Ryan Roberts was the starting pitcher for WHS, pitching 0.2 innings where he allowed six runs (none earned) on three hits and one walk. He also totaled one strikeout. Harless pitched two innings of relief. He allowed four runs (all earned) on six hits and two walks.
Next for the Wildcats is a Southern Hills Athletic Conference game on Tuesday, March 28 vs. Peebles at 5 p.m.
