MOWRYSTOWN — This time around, the Whiteoak Wildcats were on the positive side of the scoreboard, avenging a loss from earlier this season with a 2-1 win Tuesday against the Ripley Blue Jays for a Southern Hills League win.

The win keeps them in a first-place tie in Division II of the SHL with Fayetteville, as Fayetteville defeated Fairfield, 11-1.

"We weren't pretty offensively, but it worked," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said.

As for the Wildcats, they spread out their scoring with one run in the second and one in the fifth for their second run of the game.

Their first run (in the second inning) was scored by Blake Trublood as he kept the inning alive with a two-out single, then scoring on a double by Michael Smith.

In the fifth, the Wildcats scored when Gage Carraher (who forced a walk and was hit by a pitch in the game) took advantage of fielding miscues of the Blue Jays. The Wildcats had opportunities to score more runs in the inning but left the bases loaded.

"Michael's two-out hit was huge for us," Veidt said.

Earning the three hits by WHS were Smith, Docter and Trublood. Trublood and Luke Taggert also drew walks in the game, and Doc Seip was hit by a pitch.

[[In-content Ad]]Ripley threatened in the seventh inning, scoring once as Ramsey (who walked) scored on a base hit by Arnett. Also in the inning, the Blue Jays had a total of three base runners, as one was thrown out at third on an attempted steal, one scored and one was left stranded as Docter struck out the final batter to end the game.

"The way we got out in the seventh was big for us," Veidt said. "We had solid defense."

Docter was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats, going the complete seven innings on the mound. Docter allowed one run (one earned) on five hits and three walks. The junior finished with 11 strikeouts.

The loss went to Brad Kirschner of RHS. He pitched five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits, four walks and two hit batters. He totaled 11 strikeouts.

WHS will be back in action on Thursday as they travel for a SHL game against Highland County rival Fairfield at 5 p.m.
