WILMINGTON — After four strong innings were complete, the Whiteoak Wildcats sealed up a non-league win against a Southern Hills League opponent Monday. Their 14 total runs in those innings led to a 14-4 win over the Peebles Indians for a run-rule win.
WHS scored one run in the first, four runs in the second, five in the third and four more in the fourth for the 14 total runs.
"Eleven hits in five innings is an impressive offensive performance," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. "Our bats have been on fire two of our past three games. If you combine our offensive capabilities with our pitching, we could be hard to deal with.
"The top four hitters in our lineup all finished with multiple hits, and the guys at the bottom are doing a nice job of getting on base."
As for PHS, they scored two runs in the first, followed by a scoreless second and one run in each of the next two innings.
The Wildcats (14-5) had four players with at least two hits, as Michael Smith and Zach Docter each tallied three hits. Smith was 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs and two RBIs.
Docter was also 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and three RBIs.
[[In-content Ad]]Gage Carraher was 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs, while Jesse Bradds was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Doc Seip finished 1-for-2 with a triple, two runs and one RBI.
The winning pitcher was Nathan Hauke, who pitched all five innings. The senior allowed four runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk. Hauke (3-2) finished with two strikeouts.
"Nate had an impressive performance on the mound for us," Veidt said. "He got better each inning. He does what he does best, gets ground balls, changes speeds with great movement and throws strikes."
WHS will play again on Tuesday, as they travel to face Manchester in SHL play.
