Whiteoak Lady Wildcats earn 1st win of season; defeat Manchester

The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats defended their home court Monday evening and in the process not only gained a win in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference, but earned their first win of the season, defeating the Manchester Lady Greyhounds, 46-40.
WHS set the tempo in the first half by outscoring the Lady Greyhounds, 12-9 in the opening eight minutes, and in the second frame, they outscored the visitors, 14-13 for a three-point halftime advantage of 26-22.
The Lady ‘Cats (1-3, 1-4) dominated the third frame, taking a 38-26 advantage following an eight-minute span where they outscored MHS, 12-4. In the final frame, Manchester rallied, but WHS fended them off, as MHS won the fourth, 14-8.

Chelsea Chisman led WHS with 15 points. The senior made four two-point field goals and went 7-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Cylee Bratton and Maggie Carr were next in the scoring column with 10 points each. Bratton sank one 3-pointer, three two-point buckets and was 1-of-2 from the free throw stripe. Carr finished wth one 3-pointer, one two-point basket and went 5-of-6 in her free-throw attempts.
Lexi Jones followed with four points, as did Megan Botts, with both players sinking two two-point baskets apiece. Morgan Thompson totaled three points, sinking one 3-pointer in the win.
“I’m happy with the scoring for the different positions,” WHS head coach Randy Abbott said. “Chelsea is getting a feel for the post, and Cylee played a good ball game. She’s a good shooter and is shooting with confidence. All of the girls played a good game, and this was a good win for us.
“Starting off the game, we were able to set the tempo, but we lost that in the second quarter. We regained it in the third, but with some foul trouble, we didn’t finish as strong as we needed to. Overall, this was a good win for us, and I was pleased with the effort.”
At the free-throw line, the Lady ’Cats finished 13-of-19 (68 percent). Manchester was 8-of-23 from the free-throw line in their visit to Mowrystown, with their leading scorer being Kylee Lucas with nine points. C.J. Hobbs and McKenzie Smith each finished with eight points.
Next for Whiteoak is a SHAC home game vs. the undefeated Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs on Thursday, Dec. 15 at WHS. LC enters the game at 6-0.
