MOWRYSTOWN — For the second time this season, the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats were victorious once the final out was on the boards, and they did it in shutout fashion, blanking the Ripley Lady Blue Jays, 4-0 Tuesday at Whiteoak High School.

A big part of the win came not just from the arm of freshman Kiley Sosby, but from her swing at the plate, along with quick base running, as she cleared the bases in the bottom of the third inning with a three-run inside-the-park home run. The Lady 'Cats finished that inning with a four-run lead.

The third began with Makayla Wescott getting hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Molly Oliver followed with a two-out single, scoring Wescott, who advanced two bases on two wild pitches.

Morgan Miller followed by taking the bases after being hit by a pitch, and they along with Sosby scored as the freshman smashed the ball to deep centerfield, rounding the bases for three runs and the aforementioned four-run lead.

Sosby was the winning pitcher for the Lady 'Cats, tossing seven shutout innings, her first shutout of her high school career. The freshman allowed no runs on three hits and one walk. She finished with 12 strikeouts.

"Before the game, we talked about not letting the first batter on the bases and hitting locations, and Kiley did that (Tuesday)," WHS head coach Bret Malone said. "She was focused, but she was battling some pain."
