Athletes take part in DIII Regionals

LANCASTER — Four athletes from Highland County took part in the Division III Regional Track & Field championships Wednesday and Friday at Lancaster High School.
Whiteoak junior Clarissa Johnson qualified for four individual regional events at the meet, taking part in three of them. She finished 11th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.52 and ninth in the 300m hurdles at 49.90.
In the 200m dash the junior was 13th at 28.02. She had a no distance on the long jump.
Fairfield sophomore Michael Mangus was seventh in the 3200m run at 10:15.01.
Lynchburg-Clay junior Emma Setty was 10th in the region in the discus throw with a toss of 89-00, while teammate and fellow junior Cayla Buchreitz was 11th in the discus throw with a distance of 88-09.
To advance to the state tournament athletes must place in the Top 4 of their respective events.
In the final team standings, the regional girls champion in Lancaster was Mount Gilead with 56 points, and the boys team regional champion was Gahanna Columbus Academy with 113 points.[[In-content Ad]]
