4 advance to Division III regionals
OAK HILL — A group of athletes from Highland County have advanced to the Division III track and field regional championships, as they placed in the top four of their respective events in the two-day meet at Oak Hill High School, which wrapped up on Saturday afternoon.
Earning spots to the Division III regionals were Michael Mangus of Fairfield, Clarissa Johnson of Whiteoak and Emma Setty and Cayla Buchreitz of Lynchburg-Clay.
Mangus earned a trip to the regionals with a third-place finish in the district 1600-meter run with a time of 4:35.85 and a second-place finish in the 3200m run at 10:05.45.
Johnson moves to the regionals with a third-place finish in the 100m dash at 13.49 and a second-place finish in the 300m hurdles at 49.54. Johnson was also second in the 200m dash at 27.32 and fourth in the long jump at 14-03.00. She scored 27 points and was the lone athlete to advance in four individual events.
Lynchburg-Clay had two discus throwers finishing in the top four with Emma Setty placing second with a toss of 89-01 and Cayla Buchreitz in fourth at 85-02.
Winning the girls (North) championship was Waterford with 131 points, followed by Paint Valley in second with 109 points. WHS was seventh with 36 points, LC was 12th with 20 points and Fairfield was 15th with four points.
Winning the girls (South) championship was Wheelersburg with 115.33 points.
The boys district championship was won by Coal Grove Dawson Bryant with 96.50 points. Fairfield placed 13th with 20 points.
