Suspect identified, arrested in Wilmington hit-skip case

After a lengthy investigation by the Wilmington Police Department, Taylor Nicole Thompson, 26, of Dayton was identified as the suspected driver who allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian on Aug. 19 in Wilmington.

On Aug. 19 at 2:15 a.m., Wilmington Police Department responded to a 911 call of a hit-skip crash with a pedestrian struck at the intersection of South South Street and Sugartree Street. The pedestrian, a 27-year-old male from Wilmington, was transported to Clinton Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased by medical staff.

Wilmington Police Department investigators provided the Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office with the case file on Sept. 12. After conferring with the Clinton County Prosecutor, a warrant was issued for Thompson for the following charges: stopping after accident upon public roads or highways (hit-skip), causing the death of another; and tampering with evidence. Both charges are a felony of the third degree.

On Sept. 13, Thompson was arrested by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and booked into the Montgomery County Jail. She will remain in the Montgomery County Jail until bond is posted or has an extradition hearing to be brought back to Clinton County.
