It was all Zanesville in the first half Friday, Oct. 1, as the Blue Devils hosted the Hillsboro Indians at John D. Sulsberger Memorial Stadium.
After 24 minutes of play, Coach Chad Grandstaff's Blue Devils held a commanding 29-8 halftime advantage. Zanesville went on to rout the Indians, 64-16.
Zanesville moved the football for more than 200 yards in total offense in the first half, while Hillsboro struggled to reach Blue Devils' territory.
The sole offensive highlight for Coach Brian Spicer's Indians came late in the second quarter when quarterback Aric Carroll connected with freshman Kordell Ford for a touchdown. Carroll found Dow Kiefer for the two-point conversion, but Hillsboro still trailed by three scores entering the locker room.
In the second half, Zanesville added five more touchdowns as the Blue Devils accumulated 450 yards in total offense.
A 90-yard fumble recovery by K.J. Grimmett made it a 57-8 game in the third quarter.
Carroll rushed for a two-yard touchdown with 3:40 remaining and the two-point conversion made it 57-16.
Cody Marks answered for Zanesville with a 42-yard scoring run and Payton Norris added the extra point to complete the scoring.
Zanesville improves to 5-1, while Hillsboro falls to 1-5. The Indians return to Richards Memorial Field on Friday, Oct. 8.
