Wright State’s Noel named Horizon League Winter Scholar-Athlete of the season
Wright State basketball player Brandon Noel earned the 2023 Valeo Horizon League Winter Scholar-Athlete of the season, the league office announced this month.
A chemistry major, Noel collected Horizon League Freshman of the Year honors and a spot on the All-Freshman Team in his first season of action with the Raiders. He appeared in all 33 games during the 2022-23 season, averaging 13.0 points per game, the second-most on the roster, and a team-leading 8.7 rebounds per game. His 60.9-percent field goal shooting percentage was first in the Horizon and 19th nationally.
The Lucasville, Ohio native finished with 11 double-doubles, good for the third-most by an HL player. Noel recorded 23 double-figure scoring performances with seven games of 20-plus points. On the glass, he had 13 double-digit rebound games and five-plus rebounds in 28 contests.
In addition, Noel's work in the classroom earned him a spot on the 2023 Horizon League All-Academic Team, the Wright State University Dean's List, and he has been named to the conference academic honor roll every semester he has been eligible (Fall 2021-Fall 2022).
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes at the conclusion of each of its three athletic campaigns as the Scholar-Athlete of the Season. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be a member of their respective sport Horizon League All-Academic Team. The honor is selected by the faculty athletic representatives based on a combination of athletic and academic achievement.
