MOWRYSTOWN — The Whiteoak Wildcats took control in the bottom of the sixth Friday at Whiteoak High School. Having two players with at least two hits, the Wildcats defeated the Fayetteville Rockets 6-2 in Southern Hills League play.
The Wildcats trailed after two and a half innings were complete but tied the game in the bottom of the second and added five runs in the bottom of the sixth for the league win.
"We pushed five across in the fifth in a variety of different ways. The big clutch hit in the inning was Mike Carraher's two-run double," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said.
The Rockets scored one run in the top of the seventh.
Ethan Eyre (1-2) pitched seven innings for the Wildcats to gain the win. Eyre allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks. Eyre finished with four strikeouts.
"We put a solid defensive game behind Ethan, and he was in control," Veidt said.
At the plate for WHS, Zach Docter led WHS at 3-for-4 with one run scored. Luke Taggert was 2-for-4 with one run.
Ben Barnett, Jesse Bradds and Mike Carraher each had one hit. Taggert scored one run and Bradds had an RBI.
"We hit the baseball hard right at people though the first four innings without much to show for it," Veidt said.
The win lifts WHS to 8-11 overall, 6-4 in the SHL.
