Whiteoak falls in home opener

     MOWRYSTOWN – After gaining their season opening win on Friday night, the Whiteoak Wildcats dropped their first game of the year the following day as they fell to non-league foe Williamsburg 70-51 in their 2009-10 home opener at Whiteoak High School.

    WHS was led in scoring by Mike Carraher with 14 points. Carraher sank four 3-pointers and was 2 of 4 from the free-throw line.

    Ben Barnett followed with 13 points. The senior made two 3-pointers, two two-point baskets and was 3 of 8 from the foul line.

    WHS junior Joe Michael gained 12 points in the loss to Williamsburg. Michael made five shots from the floor. Jerry Stuckey netted two 3-pointers and ended the game with eight points Saturday night.

    Kyle Cope and Ethan Eyre each gained two points.

    WHS made a total of eight 3-pointers and 10 two-point shots. They were 7 of 21 from the free-throw line.

    The Wildcats trailed 19-16 after the first quarter. Williamsburg outscored the Wildcats 14-9 in the second. In the third WHS gained 11 points (15 by Williamsburg) and Williamsburg won the final quarter 22-15.

    Williamsburg was led by Elliott Young with 29 points. Williamsburg went 11 of 15 in free-throw shooting, as they made five 3-pointers and 22 two-point shots.
