FRANKFORT – The football woes of the Paint Valley Bearcats continued Friday night as they allowed the Adena Warriors to take charge of their Scioto Valley Conference contest, with the ’Cats dropping their fourth game of the season, falling 34-13 at Adena High School.

In the third quarter alone Adena scored 20 points.

“I want to give all the credit to Adena,” Paint Valley head coach Pete Hollon said. “They played like a hungry football team should want to play. In the 14 years I’ve been coach here I’ve never had a team that wasn’t mentally ready to play like we were, and it’s my responsibility to get the team ready. I take full responsibility.”

Adena started off the game by scoring the first two touchdowns for the 14-0 lead.

The first score came as Matt Detillion found Kurt Yates for 12 yards into the end zone in the first quarter with 4:12 remaining.

After the Bearcats lost possession of the ball on a fumble, the Warriors took advantage of the turnover when John Johnson pounded his way for an 8-yard TD in the second quarter.

In the second quarter Paint Valley cut the AHS lead in half when Adam Cooper caught a 9-yard pass from Brennen Dove. Nick Gragg kicked the PAT.

Then things went to the way of the Warriors.

Reed Hutchinson carried the ball 72 yards for the TD, followed with Hutchinson catching a 67-yard pass for his second score within a two minute span.

Johnson scored his second TD of the game with 4:18 left in the third on a 6-yard dash to the end zone. The PAT was no good.

PV scored their final TD with 11:11 remaining in the game as Dove took the ball 4 yards to pat dirt. The PAT was blocked.

The loss drops PV to 2-4 overall, 1-2 in SVC play.

Matt Davis led PV with 15 tackles. Cooper finished with 13 tackles. Dove ended the game with seven tackles and one sack.

At QB, Dove finished with 87 yards passing, going 8 of 14. Dove also had 11 carries for 89 yards on the ground.

“Football is a game of mental toughness and right now we have any,” Hollon said.

On offense Adena ran 86 plays, as the Bearcats had 41.
