UC bows out of Big East tournament
A last-second 3-pointer by West Virginia's Da’Sean Butler lifted Bob Huggins' Mountaineers to a 54-51 win Thursday over the University of Cincinnati Bearcats.
With 6.4 seconds left in the game and the score even at 51-51, the Bearcats had the ball and a chance to win. But Dion Dixon lost his dribble on the inbounds play and the ball was given back to West Virginia.
After a Huggins' timeout, West Virginia’s Devin Ebanks passed the ball to Butler at the top of the key, and he banked in a three over Lance Stephenson for the game winner. Butler finished with 15 points.
Stephenson led Cincinnati with 19 points in the game.
West Virginia advances to the Big East semifinals.
