On Saturday Dec. 4, the McClain Tigers wrestling team traveled to Williamsburg to compete in the Bob Guy Invitational.

The Tigers entered into their first action under first-year head coach Shane Paul, where they left with the second-place trophy in the nine-team tournament.

The Tiger wrestlers fought hard all day and showed great potential, according to Coach Paul, as they had 10 of 11 wrestlers place in the top six.

Leading the way for the Tigers was senior Steven Barber, as he won the 152-pound championship.

Coty Barnhart (125) and Joe Unger (160) were finalists, and both took home runner-up awards.

Dustin Combs (130), Brandon Houston (171) and Gary Ryan (215) took third-place.  Fourth-place finishes went to Cody Black (140) and Lonnie Adkins (285). Joe Barnhart (189) and Brandon Davis (285) finished in sixth place.

The second-place finish puts the Tigers' season record at 7-1. They will compete in the Xenia Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 11, where the competition will be primarily Division I opponents.[[In-content Ad]]
