Tigers win first league game; crash Golden Eagles

MT. STERLING — For the first time this season, the McClain Tigers are winners in the South Central Ohio League. The improving Tigers, who now have won two straight varsity games, dominated the fourth frame Friday night en route to a 46-44 win at MPHS.
The Tigers have improved their overall record to 5-10 overall and are 1-8 in the SCOL.
MHS trailed after the first quarter, 13-12, and at the half they were down, 22-18 with MP outscoring MHS, 9-6 in the second quarter.
The Tigers were outscored by five points in the third frame at 16-11, making the score 40-29.
But in the fourth and final frame, the Tigers had their largest scoring output of the game, netting 17 points compared to the six by the Golden Eagles.
One game after scoring 22 points, Jared Loftis tallied a game-high 18 points, making two 3-pointers for the Tigers.
Zach Matracia followed with 14 points, making five two-point field goals and four free throws.
Aaron Pryor added six points, followed by Tanner Vanzant with four points. Zach Uhl and Scott Balzer each scored two points.
Garrett Dugger was the high scorer for MP with 10 points. Dugger made two 3-pointers, as did teammate Davis, who finished with eight points.
Lemieux, Williams and Wolfe each scored six points for the Golden Eagles. Henry scored five points for MP, and Glispie rounded out the MP scoring with three points (a 3-pointer).
MHS was 8-of-16 for 50 percent from the free-throw line, and MP went 9-of-12 for 75 percent.
