GREENFIELD - The McClain Tigers face their toughest task to date, maybe of the entire season, as they hit the road one final time, this time facing the undefeated and state-ranked Clinton-Massie Falcons Friday night.
The Falcons (3-0, 6-0) are coming off one of their top wins of the year by defeating South Central Ohio League counterpart London.
"No question about it, Clinton-Massie is pretty good," McClain head coach Randy Closson said. "They are big, physical and aggressive. Defensively and offensively they are a very talented, smash mouth football team."
The Falcon offense not only likes to run the football, but they live-and-die by the run.
"We have seen a lot of teams that like to run the football, but we haven't seen teams who can run the football as well as they do," Closson said. "This will be a physical matchup with good athletes. What they do, they do very well, with big strong kids."
Closson said he was impressed with the entire offense of the Falcons.
"Their running backs are good and their quarterback throws well. They (C-M) like to run, but will throw the ball if too many players get in the box."
Last week, against London, the Falcons won by a score of 33-14, with it being London's first SCOL loss of the season. In the second quarter alone Massie scored 21 points.
The Falcons rushed for 364 yards on 63 carries against the Red Raiders. Jordan Scanlon led all rushers with 226 yards on the ground with four touchdowns. He had TD runs of 10, 4, 2 and 10 yards.
Massie fullback Scott Wilkie finished with 95 yards rushing in week six.
For the Tigers, they are currently 4-2 overall, with one league win over the Washington Blue Lions in a 34-26 victory at McClain field.
"We feel fortunate where we are at this point of the season," Closson said. "The game against Massie is a challenge and an opportunity to see what we are made of. We are looking forward to it."
Up to this point of the season Closson said he was proud of his team, as they have played solid defense all year.
"For us to get the win over Washington last week was good for us after losing the two games before that," Closson said. "It was nice to get the first league win."
This will be the final road game for the Tigers as they have played four of their first six games on the road.
"We've only had two games at home and it¹s nice to play a quality team," Closson said. "After this one we have to get ready for the home stretch."
